今年確定終止北美、歐洲與澳洲電子書服務，並且轉與Kobo合作電子書服務內容後，Sony目前也確定結束生產電子書閱讀器產品，最後一款PRS-T3電子書閱讀器將成為末代機種。

BBC新聞引述德國Lesen網站報導表示，Sony證實將終止生產電子書閱讀器產品，先前推出的PRS-T3電子書閱讀器將成為末代機種。而早在今年2月，Sony便宣布終止北美、歐洲與澳洲電子書服務，並且轉與Kobo合作電子書服務內容，使旗下用戶可直接移轉至Kobo服務平台繼續使用電子書閱讀服務。

由於電子書市場無法與亞馬遜、Kobo蓬勃發展趨勢抗衡，同時有越來越多行動裝置可取代電子書閱讀器，因此Sony在面對持續虧損考量下，先後宣布終止電子書服務平台，並且終止生產硬體設備產品，避免虧損持續擴大。

不過，雖然電子書與數位閱讀模式崛起逐漸取代傳統紙本閱讀，但在目前資訊爆發且網路資訊發達情況下，電子書市場競爭相對也更顯得激烈，因而也讓不少進入此塊市場競爭的廠商慘踢鐵板。
