據英國《每日郵報》9月10日報導，當地時間10日下午，英格蘭桑德蘭市附近一處海灘上出現了波浪雲奇觀。攝影師保羅金斯頓(Paul Kingston)在第一時間發現了這些不同尋常的波浪雲。專家稱，這些波浪雲的出現或與當時的溫度和空氣密度有關。

據人民網報導，這些波浪雲出現在離地面大約5000公尺的高空處，位於海上一座燈塔的上方，大約持續了有30秒鐘，波浪雲景觀就消失了，而這一幕恰好被正在海上攝影的攝影師保羅捕捉下來。一位氣象局的預報員表示，這種波浪雲構造的產生與當時的溫度和空氣密度有關，由於不同雲層在運動的過程中，運動的速度不同，同時伴隨溫度和密度的變化，從而引發了此現象。

保羅也表示，這種波浪雲自己只在電視上見過，現實生活中並沒有見過，非常罕見。
