洪仲丘枉死案持續延燒，國防部死亡證明開立死因「他為」引發各界質疑，好不容易等到的第三份死亡證明書，死因雖改為「他殺」，但地點卻寫為「自宅」，再度引發洪家不滿。法務部法醫研究所法醫病理組組長蕭開平表示，洪仲丘最後是在家中斷氣，因此死亡地點為「自宅」並沒有錯。

外界質疑死亡證明「他為」與「他殺」的差異，蕭開平表示，死因分為自殺、意外、他殺、自然死亡與未確定等5種，不管是「他為」或「他殺」，英文其實都是Homicide，只是中文比較奧妙，所以講法有很多種。

至於死亡地點為何寫「自宅」，蕭開平表示，洪仲丘在離開三軍總醫院前還未斷氣，家屬依照習俗帶著洪仲丘自然離院，回到家中在拔管斷氣，因此寫死亡地點為「自宅」並沒有錯。

軍檢署表示，4日送達洪府的洪仲丘士官死亡證明書，是與主持複驗的石台平法醫連繫後，依照法醫的認定，將死亡方式欄位勾選更正為「他殺」，但因洪仲丘士官係先送醫急救，於急救無效徵得家屬同意後，於7月4日清晨送回台中家中拔管斷氣，因此死亡時間註記為7月4日0712時，死亡地點在自宅，此均係依照死亡事實之時、地記載，並無錯誤。
