【大紀元2013年09月28日訊】美國郵政局計劃把第一類郵件的郵資提高3美分，這意味著在美國國內寄一封普通信件需要貼49美分郵票，國際郵件和明信片郵資也將提高。

美國郵政理事會表示，由於郵局財務狀況岌岌可危，需要提高郵票和郵資的價格。

「為了解決成本和收入，從目前可供郵政局選擇的選項中，增加郵資是最後一個辦法，這反映了極嚴重的財政挑戰。」董事長巴尼特（Mickey Barnett）說。

郵票漲價的提議必須由獨立的郵政管理委員會批准。 如果該委員會接受的話，漲價將自明年1月26日起開始執行。

根據漲價方案，第一類（first-class）郵件重量每增加1盎司郵資將漲1美分達到21美分；明信片郵資每增加1盎司也將漲1美分達到34美分；國際郵件郵資漲幅最大，將漲五美分，為1.15美元。

郵局表示，26日向郵政管理委員會提出漲價方案時，也將要求調整大宗郵件和包裹的郵費。

由於網上付帳越來越被大多數人採用，郵局這些年的虧損日趨嚴重。郵局去年虧損將近160億美元，今年預計虧損60億美元。國會正考慮改革郵政結構，但一直未達成協議。建議的漲價計畫將為郵政局每年新增約20億美元的收入。

為了削減成本，郵局曾計劃結束週六郵政服務，並停止大多數送上門服務。這樣該機構每年可節省20億美元，但這一建議遭到很多國會議員和郵政工人工會的反對，稱削減週六服務將會給客戶帶來不便。

美國郵政局是一家獨立機構，但必須受國會控制。
