美國股市周四中場大幅下挫，道瓊指數一度大跌達230點。思科裁員與Wal-Mart公布第二季財報令人失望，為股市帶來沉重壓力。

台北時間23:54

道瓊工業平均指數下跌183.39點或1.20%至15154.27。

Nasdaq指數下跌48.23點或1.31%至3621.38。

S&P 500指數下跌19.22點或1.15%至1666.17。

Wal-Mart (WMT-US)公布第二季美國銷售低於預期。另一家零售商Kohl's (KSS-US)公布第二季銷售上升，但獲利下降，並調降全年獲利預估。

該二公司財報，加上思科公司(Cisco)(CSCO-US)消息，使得股市大幅下挫。該網路設備製造商公布，因經濟情況困難，計劃裁員4000人。

經濟消息方面，美國公布上周初次申請失業金人數減少1.5萬至32萬人，減少人數多過預期。美國勞工部亦公布，7月消費者物價指數(CPI)上升0.2%，符合預期。CPI為主要的通貨膨脹指標。

投資人持續找尋線索，判斷聯準會(Fed)何時開始緊縮貨幣政策。

分析師說，投資人仍感到緊張，不確定Fed下個月是否開始縮減購債計劃。

其他企業消息方面，J.C. Penney (JCP-US)股價上漲，投資經理人索羅斯透露他持有該陷困境零售商的股權數量。

Gannett (GCI-US)股價下跌，由巴菲特所經營的投資機構伯克夏海瑟威公司出脫該報紙股票。伯克夏在向證券交易委員會(SEC)申報的資料中，透露了持有該公司股票內容。

伯克夏第二季亦買進Dish Network (DISH-US)與Suncor Energy (SU-US)股票，並加碼通用汽車股票。

歐洲股市於早場交易中走弱，隨美國股市下跌，亦受到亞洲股市疲弱影響。

亞洲股市今日收低，上海綜合指數下跌近1%。日經指數大跌2.1%，日元走強帶來壓力。香港恆生指數持平。
