1、I'm with you… but I just don’t think we should take on that project. 其實是要表達不同意,卻先說同意。將反對意見接在一句看似友善的贊同中。老外最愛用but,帶出後面真正要表達的想法。這句話真正要傳達的意思是: 例:I don't think taking on the project is a good idea(我不認為目前接下這個案子很合適。)
2、I'm not so sure shutting down that factory isn't the best option after all. 雙重否定,負負得正,聽這口氣, 狀似委婉、不確定是否為最好的抉擇, 其實語意已經含有強烈決定要關掉工廠的意味。這樣別人就算想反對,也很難反駁。 例:I'm sorry we have to shut down that factory. We have no choice.(我們沒有選擇,必須關掉工廠。)
3、To be honest, I do not think we have a chance of winning. 看似誠懇,掏心掏肺,其實和誠實不相干,只是在委婉的表達個人意見。小心這類字後面帶出來的是表達意見,而是否真的誠實,就見仁見智了。尤其是像「To be honest」、「to tell you the truth」這類的句子。其他像in general、in other words、in fact、actually這類字也不必常用。這類詞直接去掉即可。 例:I do not think we have a chance of winning.(我不認為我們有機會贏。)
