大陸央視新聞報導，聯合國教科文組織4日在亞塞拜然首都巴庫，通過將珠算正式列為人類非物質文化遺產，這也是大陸第30項被列為非遺的項目。

珠算並非首次申請人類非物質文化遺產，2006年8月，安徽黃山市政府與中國珠心算協會，曾以珠算鼻祖程大位的《算法統宗》等珠算巨著，以及算盤與珠算等共同組成「珠算文化」向聯合國申報。

在2008年公布的第二批中國非物質文化遺產名錄裡，珠算（程大位珠算法、珠算文化）被列為國家級非物質文化遺產；而在以民間文化、傳統音樂、曲藝等分類的十個目錄中，珠算歸類為民俗。
