台鐵新購EMU800型通勤電聯車，共37列車組、296輛，第一批原型車（二列車組16輛）於日本車輛公司製造，預定今年8月下旬交車抵台，完成相關測試後，明年春節可投入營運，將能提升捷運化之運能及通勤旅客的服務品質。

台鐵今天表示，新的通勤列車結合車型代號與自行車的兩鐵概念意象，列車內裝配合民眾休閒規劃，於第一、八車提供自行車與折疊座椅共用區，於折疊椅不用時，將可停放八輛自行車。

車上旅客服務資訊，除車門上保留LED的停靠站資訊外，每節車廂走道上，增設4台液晶螢幕，並配合左右側開門指示燈及語音服務，展現多元化視訊服務及提供旅客轉乘資訊。
