市場研究機構NPD DisplaySearch指出，智慧型手機快速普及，加上行動內容爆發性成長、消費者行為習慣正在改變，對於大螢幕手機需求日趨強烈。在韓系品牌帶動下，預期2013年下半年手機面板將持續朝大尺寸方向演進，其中，5吋及以上智慧型手機出貨將繼續保持快速增長。而隨著中國移動通信調整對3.5吋單核智能手機補貼政策，中國市場3.5吋（480×320）手機市場則將出現明顯下滑。

根據NPD DisplaySearch觀察，在三星Galaxy Note II熱賣之後，Android陣營各手機品牌廠陸續推出超大螢幕手機，開拓差異化市場，這也帶動智慧型手機不斷向大尺寸發展。

其中，2013年6/25，Sony索尼於中國上海舉辦「索尼夏季新品發布會」正式發表Xperia Z Ultra，SmartWatch 2等新品，Xperia Z Ultra就是以6.44吋FHD屏幕再創大螢幕手機尺寸新高，並以6.6毫米厚度、220克重量、手寫筆輸入等特色而受到關注。

NPD DisplaySearch統計顯示，2013年第一季全球3.5吋及以上手機用主動式顯示面板（包含TFT-LCD及AMOLED）出貨量近2.5億片，較2012年同期增長87%，並且加速向智慧型手機應用方向拓展。

不過，若就3.5吋以上手機面板進一步做區隔，2013年第一季3.5吋至3.9吋手機面板的出貨量約達5826萬片，其實還比去年同期衰退27.2%。尤其3.5吋（960×640）面板出貨年減達65%，主因是Apple於iPhone5開始採用4吋面板，隨著iPhone4/4S產品退市，預期3.5吋（800×480）面板將逐步淡出市場。至於3.5吋480×320面板也因（第二季）中國移動通信調整對3.5吋單核智能手機的補貼政策，預期接下來中國市場3.5吋480×320面板出貨亦將明顯下滑。

4吋至4.9吋手機面板在2013年第一季出貨量約達1.55億片，年增達241.3%。其中，800×480和854×480解析度面板出貨量高達7964萬片，年增達196.8%，預料4吋至4.9吋可能替代3.5吋機種、成為智慧型手機主流配置。而隨著中國移動通信補貼政策調整，4吋及以上雙核智慧型手機也將有機會成為中國市場合約機主流規格。

5吋及以上尺寸手機面板在2013年第一季出貨量達3292萬片，較去年同期增長425.5%。除了系統持續改進，Android手機也延續硬體優勢，手機品牌廠紛紛推出5吋及以上四核旗艦機種，甚至還有6吋及以上尺寸螢幕新機發表。而目前三星仍是大尺寸手機潮流的領導者，尤其在5吋及以上尺寸領域依舊保有優勢。
